Here's a look in at some anaerobic work for @coolhandmma . The sequence was 3 Trapbar deadlifts at 75%, 5 box jumps, and max cals on the airbike for the remainder of the 60 seconds, then 5 minutes off for 4 sets. ⁣
⁣
This type of work is fantastic for our combat athletes to continue learning how to use the energy systems to the best of their ability. You can easily coast on the bike without hitting maximum output, but that ends up hindering the development of the anaerobic system. Thus not being able to stay at a high pace during grappling exchanges and clinch work. ⁣
⁣
Not only that, but this helps us see where our gaps in recovery are. If Luke had a significant drop in calories exerted between the first and second set, then we clearly are dealing with a recovery problem that may be hindering performance. ⁣
⁣
This specific set is fairly advanced along the progression of anaerobic work. A great starting point would be to stay on one piece of conditioning equipment and do 30 seconds on/ 30 seconds off for 4-5 sets, trying to stay at a high but consistent calorie output each sprint! This will be a good first step at building up your anaerobic capacity!⁣

Have you ever had a grocery cart wheel that keeps hitching? Every time you push, it skids the whole cart, making you have to push WAYYY harder in order for it to move? Well the same idea holds true for a lack of foot mobility. If the front of the foot is stiff and rigid like that cart wheel, then the rest of your foot/ankle has to work WAYYY harder to pick up the slack. That’s when problems can arise.⁣
⁣
Foot health is especially important for our combat athletes because a good amount of training is done in “foot coffins” a.k.a. Wrestling/boxing shoes. Coming from experience, I know that wrestling shoes in particular pack your foot in extremely tight. This leads itself to this problematic rigid forefoot mentioned above that can not only feed into foot/ankle issues, but also decrease your potential power generation from the whole leg.⁣
⁣
This easy at home “exercise” is fantastic for getting some movement in those squeaky forefoot joints. By shaking hands with you feet, it allows your foot to open up and breathe like it was designed to do! ⁣

Chances are you have probably seen a Wall Angel before. Whether it was during rehab, a warm up, or even just at the gym; this exercise is extremely common. It’s also commonly messed up, which can take away from the benefits you should be getting.⁣
⁣
When doing the wall angel, focus on maintaining your canister through the motion. Nobody cares that you can get your arms extended if you’re using your spine to do it. It’s all about intent. Your intention needs to be focused on the journey of the exercise, not the outcome of the rep. Once you start focusing on just getting as high as you can, the exercise loses its use. ⁣
