A quick hitter for this episode, we touch on coach-athlete relationships. Most coaches do this well, some do it great, and few are horrific. Specifically we tackle this question, “Should you be friends with your athletes?” We agree that getting the work done is essential to any coach-athlete relationship, so creating a friendship cannot hurt your ability to push, pull, or stress the athlete. In some contexts a friendship can help the ability to coach your athletes, and as a coach we must identify if this is a beneficial thing or not. This is a huge gray area, we are all for friendships as long as they are professional, mutually beneficial, and efficient.
